MClimate Open/Close Sensor LoRaWAN

A Ready For Anything® building block for allowing the window and door control logic

When buildings know what’s open, they can act intelligently.

MClimate Open/Close Sensor LoRaWAN is a LoRaWAN® open/close sensor designed to detect the status of windows, doors, cabinets, and similar assets. By providing reliable, event-based open/close information to Niagara, it enables smarter HVAC control, energy optimisation, and operational workflows — without wiring or fragile local integrations.

The problem this product exists to solve

In many buildings, systems operate without knowing whether windows or doors are actually open.

This leads to:

  • Heating or cooling running while windows are open
  • Wasted energy and occupant discomfort
  • Manual checks and operational blind spots
  • Systems that cannot adapt to real-world behaviour

The issue isn’t HVAC capability. It’s the lack of simple, scalable status data that can be integrated into the building system after handover.

When this problem is addressed properly, buildings become more efficient, more responsive, and easier to operate over time.

Niagara Integration (Innon Support)

For Niagara-based systems, MClimate Open/Close Sensor LoRaWAN can be integrated using Innon’s LoRaWAN driver for Niagara, exposing open/close status, temperature, battery level, and event counters as native Niagara points.

  • Window-open HVAC lockout strategies
  • Event-based logic instead of polling
  • Consistent behaviour across rooms and sites

Why this product is Ready For Anything®

Ready for Today

  • Reliable magnetic reed switch detects open/close events
  • Immediate uplink on every status change
  • Built-in temperature sensor adds environmental context
  • Simple installation on doors, windows, cabinets, and enclosures

Ready for Tomorrow

  • LoRaWAN® Class A wireless deployment avoids rewiring
  • Battery-powered with expected life of 5–10 years
  • Scales easily from single rooms to multi-site portfolios
  • FUOTA (Firmware Update Over The Air) supports long-term adaptability

Ready for Security

  • LoRaWAN® end-to-end encryption (AES-CTR)
  • No exposed local wiring
  • Event counter enables audit and diagnostics

Ready for Integration

  • Open LoRaWAN® protocol (LoRaWAN® 1.0.3)
  • Compatible with multi-vendor BMS architectures
  • Clean integration into Niagara via Innon’s LoRaWAN driver
  • Avoids lock-in and fragile point-to-point wiring

What makes this product different

Many open/close sensors are treated as security-only devices. In a building system context, they can deliver far more value.

  • System-aware status: open/close events feed directly into Niagara logic.
  • Energy-first use cases: HVAC can respond automatically to real conditions.
  • Event-driven design: uplinks are sent only when something changes.
  • Retrofit-friendly: install where behaviour matters, not where wiring exists.

Typical applications (where open/close insight delivers value)

  • Window-open detection: pause heating or cooling to avoid energy waste.
  • Commercial buildings: improve HVAC efficiency without occupant training.
  • Residential and multi-dwelling units: support energy optimisation strategies.
  • Cabinets and enclosures: monitor access to critical equipment.
  • Smart buildings: add real-world awareness to automation logic.

How this fits into a Ready For Anything® Niagara + LoRaWAN solution

On its own, MC-LW-OC-01 provides reliable open/close status.

When integrated into a Niagara-based LoRaWAN architecture, it becomes a key building block in a Ready For Anything® energy and operational awareness solution.

  • Open/close events inform HVAC and energy logic
  • Niagara coordinates behaviour across systems
  • Automation remains understandable after handover
  • Buildings adapt to how spaces are actually used

From good systems to great outcomes

  • Reduced heating and cooling waste
  • Better occupant comfort
  • Fewer manual checks and complaints
  • Systems that respond to real-world behaviour
